| A 38-year-old man facing immigration fraud charges in federal court entered a guilty plea yesterday. Jesse Mafnas Babauta signed a plea agreement with the U.S. government. He pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud. The court sealed the plea agreement. U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson accepted Babauta's plea and set the sentencing for March 2, 2010, at 9am led light bulb. Munson said the defendant shall remain at liberty under the same terms and conditions of release as the court had previously set. Count one of the indictment stated that on Aug. 25, 2008 and continuing to Oct. 11, 2008, Babauta devised a scheme to defraud Zhi Yuan Li of his money and property by means of false and fraudulent pretenses, representations, and promises LED Lamp. The U.S. government charged Babauta with one count of mail fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, two counts of fraud and misuse of immigration documents, and one count of conspiracy to commit offenses. The U.S. government indicted Babauta for defrauding a Chinese national by promising to get his daughter from Fujian Province, China, to Saipan in exchange for moneyLED Downlights. Persons from the Fujian Province cannot lawfully enter the CNMI without advance written permission from the CNMI Office of the Attorney General. |
